1. Use Active Recall

When you reread a page, it may look familiar, and you may feel like you understand it. But familiarity does not always mean you can remember or apply the information when you need it.
Active recall changes that.
Instead of looking at your notes repeatedly, close the book and ask yourself:
- What can I remember?

3. Take Better Notes
Taking notes should not mean copying everything your teacher says or writing down entire paragraphs from a textbook.
Good notes help you process information, organize ideas, and prepare for review.

Divide your page into sections for:

- Key questions or cues
- A short summary
This method encourages you to review and test yourself instead of simply reading your notes.
Mind Maps
Use diagrams to connect ideas, concepts, and relationships. This can be especially useful for subjects where you need to see how different ideas fit together.
The Question Method
Turn important information into questions. Instead of writing “Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy.” Write “What is photosynthesis, and why is it important?”
Questions naturally prepare your brain for active recall.
4. Practice, Don’t Just Read
Reading is important, but learning requires more than reading.
If you are studying mathematics, solve problems.
If you are learning a language, speak and write.
If you are studying science, explain concepts and answer application questions.
If you are preparing for an exam, practice under conditions similar to the actual exam.
Learning becomes stronger when you actively use what you are trying to remember.
Ask yourself “Can I use this information, or have I only seen it?” This question can completely change the way you study.
